Crisis of shipping companies in the Red Sea
Dear Customers,
Following the recent attacks by the Houthi rebels of Yemen, against commercial vessels that have taken place in the Red Sea region.
We are informed by global shipping companies that these changes in shipping routes are causing operational complications and tariff surcharges:
- Extension of Transit Time: The new route via the Cape of Good Hope could increase the transit time by up to 20 days between Asia and Europe.
- Increased costs: This change in route will generate additional operating costs. Furthermore, although the Suez Canal toll is avoided, shipping companies will potentially have to mobilize more vessels to ensure continuous service.
- Capacity and equipment management: If the disruptions persist, a shortage of equipment for exports from Asia to Europe could occur and also impact other origins and destinations.
We collect and make available to you the various notices of modification and additional costs from shipping companies, as and when we receive them.
